Japanese Culture: Let's Wear Mask!

When you use public transportation in Japan, you often see people with masks.

In winter, people wear masks, so they don't give flu / cold to others, or they try to prevent from catching them.  You can't really avoid flu / cold by wearing masks, but at least you care!!!

In spring, people wear masks, as many of them (me, too!) have pollen allergy and trying to prevent them.

When you are in Japan, stop by the drug store to check out the mask section.  You'll be amazed how many kinds there are.  There are some cute ones for kids!

Eco: Japan

What do you do that is good for earth?
Bring your own bags for shopping?
Recycle cans and bottles?

Recently Japan has taken Eco to the whole new level,
let me show you some example...

A stapler that doesn't require staples.

Refill for Cup Noodle.

Bizarre Foods - Food you must try in Japan

Unagi (Freshwater Eels)

Unagi is usually served broiled (Kabayaki) in Japan, very rich and tasty.  It is high in protein, calcium, Vitamin A&B, and Japanese eats them when they need energy.  I often find Unagi rolls at Sushi restaurants outside of Japan.  (Price $$ to $$$)

Fugu (Blowfish)

Fugu is a fish that contains deadly poison, tetrodotoxin, and chefs need to be certified in order to handle them.  It can be served in Sashimi, deep fried, hot pot, and so on.  It doesn't have a strong flavor, but sure it tastes delicate and delicious.   (Price $$ to $$$$$)
